Art Is Image

Constructivism was an artistic movement founded in 1914 in Russia. Its founder was the Russian sculptor and painter Vladimir Tatlin. The avant-gardes accepted the movement right away. Its main characteristics were the use of pure lines and geometrical forms, simple every day materials, the use of industrial technologies, applied functionality and a reference to the theory that everybody should understand art and that art could have different functions. Architectural sculpture and industrial design were the foundations of constructivism.

With the development of constructivism began also a new form of cinema. Dziga Vertov was its most eminent representative. His statement « I am an eye. A mechanical eye. I am a machine that shows you the world like she alone can see it. » is the subtitle of our exhibition.

The exhibition with six machinimas wherein the artists give their very own personal and subjective view of a subject will be shown in a building inspired by the Melnikov house by the famous soviet architect Konstantin Stepanovitch Melnikov decorated with sculptures by Nessuno Myoo. Some of these sculptures were part of another exhibition on constructivism at LEA.
